First a little background on “Green Apple:”

“A quarter of all Americans walk through the doors of a school every day. Yet instead of walking into places of opportunity, millions enter buildings where the air they breathe is filled with toxins and mold, where classrooms are poorly lit and overcrowded, and where resources are limited and outdated. Too many of our children are learning in buildings that are compromising their health and ability to succeed.

Our kids deserve better. Where they learn matters.

Green Apple is an initiative of the Center for Green schools at USGBC to put all children in schools where they have clean and healthy air to breath, where energy and resources are conserved, and where they can be inspired to dream of a brighter future. We know how to create high performing schools that save hundreds of thousands of dollars and provide safer learning environments for our children. Learn more —> here <—

Second, a little about the “Day of Service:”

“The first annual Green Apple Day of Service will take place on Sept. 29, 2012. For one day, advocates from around the world, including students, teachers, parents, elected officials, organizations, companies and more, will come together in support of healthy, sustainable schools by taking action in their communities.” Learn more —> here <—

Lastly, a little about the Center for Green Schools:

“The Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is the organization behind the Green Apple movement, working to ensure that every student has the opportunity to attend a green school within this generation. The Center provides the resources and support to elevate dialogue, accelerate policy and institute innovation toward healthy, high-performing schools and campuses. The Center works directly with staff, teachers, faculty, students, administrators, elected officials and communities to drive the transformation of all schools into sustainable places to live and learn, work and play.” Learn more —> here <—

Republic Design Company had the opportunity to swing-on-by and take a few photo’s on September 29th, 2012; from 2 PM to 5 PM PSD at the South El Monte Community Center:
