The Principals of Mariposa Bakery in El Monte, CA commissioned Republic Design Company for the design and production of their logo, brand, identity design, business cards, and NCR forms:

“Mariposa, (in Spanish)” means “Butterfly, (in English).” As the name denotes, we knew we’d need to incorporate ‘butterfly-esque‘ elements into our design. Next, we knew that Mariposa Bakery (aside from baking a variety of tasty treats), specializes in ‘themed cakes’ for a variety of events, (like weddings and quinceañeras). We took all the design direction our client gave us (like color palette and other design direction) and created a series of logo design variations:

After our client selected the featured logo design, we then proceeded in created the Mariposa Bakery Logo Style-Guide. The Logo Style-Guide is an instruction sheet that helps clients understand the various file-formats their logo is saved in and what the different uses are intended for. We at Republic Design Company pride ourselves on educating our clients on proper logo usage techniques and are always available to assist our clients on an on-going basis…

The Logo Style-Guide is saved in Adobe Illustrator File (.ai) format, Portable Document Format File (.pdf) format, Jpeg File (.jpg) format, and Ping File (.png) format:

We expanded the logo/brand/identity of the Mariposa Bakery logo into the design of their business cards. The “livery” of the Mariposa Bakery Brand was expanded and is visible on front and back of the business card. They opted for a 16 point card stock with full UV coat on the front, flat/matt on back. Included with all pertinent contact information, and popular social media platform “instagram;” the cards came-out great…

Finally, our clients asked we design their order (NCR) forms. We took their old order form and completely revamped + cleaned-up the design and layout for easier, more clear flow/collection of important information.

We’d like to sincerely thank the principals of Mariposa Bakery for the opportunity to assist them with the design and production of all their marketing collateral…

The principals of “Mojado Grill” commissioned Republic Design Company for the design and creation of thee “Mojado Grill by Chef Geno Bahena” logo, identity, brand…

Mojado Grill by Chef Geno Bahena is a brand new Mexican cuisine restaurant located inside the Pacific View Mall, at 3301 E. Main Street Unit 2590., Ventura, CA 93003. First, some background on one of it’s enigmatic owners and lead Chef, Mr. Geno Bahena...

Chef Geno Bahena
Chef Geno Bahena

Chef Geno Bahena is a Mexican Culinary Advisor responsible for the opening of over a dozen restaurants in the Chicago area. “Geno” specializes in cooking classes, menu consulting, catering, food styling, cookbooks, Mexican kitchen layouts, culinary research for TV programs and restaurant start-ups. Mojado Grill is Chef Geno Bahena’s first offering on the West Coast, and currently helms the kitchen at La Costa Mission Restaurant in Malibu, CA.

For more information on Chef Geno Bahena, please visit:

Some important design parameters, were that we were to use a nice, easily-readable, script-stylized font for both the name of the restaurant, as-well-as, “by Chef Geno Bahena,” title. We were also given “carte blanche,” to come-up-with and infuse what we believed an appropriate representation of not only “Mojado (aka “wet,” in spanish), “Grill” (flame + yellow-to-red color gradient with brushed aluminum texture). The result, was/is the following:

After principals fell in-love with their logo, we then created 4-different variations which include:

1. Full-color logo,
2. Grey-scale logo,
3. Black with white background logo, and
4. White with black background logo,

each saved in:

1. Adobe Illustrator File (.ai),
2. Portable Document Format File (.pdf),
3. Jpeg File (.jpg), and
4. Ping File (.png).

Finally, we coupled everything with a critical document that contains instructions + information we call thee “Logo/Style-Guide.” This document explains what each file type is used for, including CMYK + HEX# color-guard, gradient strokes, and textures employed.

The Z5th Hour commissioned Republic Design Company for the design and implementation of http://www.TheZ5thHour.com website, and also it’s ongoing online presence maintenance.

The Z5th Hour Main Website: www.TheZ5thHour.com
The Z5th Hour Main Website: http://www.TheZ5thHour.com

The Z5th Hour was originally conceived by thee enigmatic artist, dancer, dj, and principal creative, Luis Soto aka  “Chauncey Pearls.” With musical influences like Doc Martin (Sub-Level), Marques Wyatt (Deep, LA) and Jason Bentley (KCRW), Chauncey’s primary focus was to bring House Music to Ventura County. It was (and still is), important (to Chauncey) to make the distinction between House Music and it’s over-popularized parent, Electronic Dance Music (EDM). Although House Music fall’s under the EDM umbrella, it’s primary distinction lies within the “feeling” one derives when referring to one or the other. As such, Chauncey’s hell-bent on bringing that “feeling,” of “House Music,”  to Ventura County area, (and beyond)…

Luis Soto aka "Chauncey Pearls"

As the name denotes, “The Z5th Hour,” in it’s simplistic form, implies “Time.” In researching various graphical representation of “Time Clock’s,” along with The Z5th Hour futuristic sound based off of Funk + Disco; it seemed like a natural progression to use this retro-digital-styled type-font, as it’s identity + livery.

The Z5th Hour Logo/Identity

With Chauncey’s creative direction, in conjunction with the newly agreed-upon logo/identity; these “All Day, House Music, All Night,” icon’s came about in the natural course of design discovery.

"All Day, House Music, All Night"
“All Day, House Music, All Night”

I do have to admit… The “Do what makes you happy,” rule applies in this instance because I, too, am a “House Music aficionado.” I listen to this genre music, at length, and The Z5th Hour was pleased with the work rendered. They further commissioned Republic Design Company to continue their “online presence” and advocacy by blogging and aggregating across all their social media platforms. Aside from designing and producing all their marketing collateral (such as event flyers + posters), they also had me blog about new and relevant music, as follows:

We also compiled “Teaser Video’s” (like the one that follows), to promote events on different social media platforms

We are pleased to be The Z5th Hour’s design consultant’s of choice.
